22 Weeks: Oh boy!

It’s official. I’m over the halfway mark! And we’re having a boy! Of course I would be happy with two spoiled princesses, but I was very happy to learn that we are having a boy. I tend to swoon over baby clothes and room decor that is typically labeled as “boys” than “girls,” and we’re doing an eclectic room for him that leans toward vintage hot rod, an ode to his father.

His room is still full of my table, craft supplies, halfway finished projects and everything I need for school. I think we’ll start getting serious about decorating his room in November, when all of our house painting is done and my stuff has all been moved into the back house. So, I haven’t bought much for his room, but I did find this adorable sign at an estate sale!

unnamedI, of course, already have a Pinterest board going and I’m excited to share some inspiration on the blog tomorrow! For now, I’m just enjoying feeling him kick and move all around. He’s much more active than Cecilia was, and my body aches a lot more than it did with her, but I am not as anxious as I was the first go’round, and I have not caught myself reading any baby books or visiting webMD. I think that comes with the experience and comfort of knowing we survived this just a couple years ago.

Right now, the only thing my body doesn’t like is beef (which I’m not concerned about, since I’m not a big fan in the first place) but it does like all things sweet! I got this german chocolate bar from Sweet Simone’s Baked Goods at the Sacramento Antique Faire yesterday, and I carried it all around with me yesterday until I got home and could enjoy it with some ice cream.

I still have half saved for tonight’s treat. Because I fear going a night without chocolate.

Cecilia does not quite understand that she’s going to be a big sister, but she adores little babies. We’ll just have to see how she reacts to one that doesn’t leave. She has been moved to a toddler bed, as my belly was making it hard to pick her up from her crib and she’s got her ABC’s and Old McDonald down. It’s so fun (and a little scary) watching her grow.

My Creative Business Journey + Giveaway Winner!

My Creative Business JourneyI just looked, and the end of March was the last time I wrote about my own creative business journey. That’s almost six months! With the move, the discovery of a new baby and a toddler, it has been difficult to continually stay focused on making an income from home, as many of you know. So, I took some time out and shifted my priorities a little. It wasn’t until the beginning of August that I felt a kick in the pants and decided it was time to give it another go!

The most exciting adventure so far has been turning my blog into a self-hosted site. I tried it before but it didn’t work, so I turned to Amy Cluck-McCallister from Amy is the Party and IndieSacramento, and one of my favorite people in Sacramento, to help with my site and logo. She worked her magic, and we’re in the home stretch! When I started the blog in 2012, I never saw it as a way to make an income. It was just a place for me to write. But, as I have seen some really positive blogger/business relationships and I have seen how mutually beneficial it can be to both, I decided to give it a try.

I’ve seen a preview of what it’s going to look like, and let me just say that I’m super excited to share it with you!

In addition to blogging, I have decided to give my vintage/handmade/print shop another chance. I changed the name to collected + made and have reopened my Etsy shop under that name! I also opened up a shop on Society 6 and I’m selling on eBay too! I have even thought about vending at a local craft fair in November.

I’m excited to get back in the swing of things and to see if I can truly make a creative business out of my passions!

And as promised, the giveaway winner for the beautiful gratitude earrings from Compliment is: Jessica Eapen! Congratulations!!! The winner was picked randomly from my blog, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram! Jessica, please contact me at mamabecrafty@gmail.com so I can get your beautiful earrings to you!

The Living Situation: Work it, girl

Work it girlI never really imagined how challenging it would be to get any projects finished with a toddler in the house. She’s constantly on the move, which means I am, too. So I was actually pretty pumped when I learned that my workspace would be moved out of the houseĀ  – due to the baby on the way – and into the studio in our backyard. We’re pretty lucky to have that studio in the first place.

Half of the studio will be storage for both our belongings and our tools, and the other half will be all mine! Obviously I won’t be able to get in there that often, but when I do, I will have free range to do what I want! To help get the creative juices flowing, I found some pretty inspiring workspaces and wanted to share them with you!

Of course I love this space from A Beautiful Mess. It would be perfect for the tool storage, and I could put a lot of my bigger supplies there, along with the little ones. I would just need to figure out a way to include the personal belongings storage and make it all work. This is definitely a good place to start, though.

I have a multitude of notebooks, ranging from big and small, and everything in between. I try to keep one with me at all times in case I get inspired by something. Since I often write in different notebooks, the ideas and concepts often get lost. I would love to have a chalkboard wall with a corkboard so I can keep track of all my crazy ideas. And there is just something about this chalkboard wall from the design studio of Karson Butler Events, and featured on Inspired by This. It just screams “CREATE IN HERE!” (hence the caps).

Katie Rodgers from Paper Fashion sure knows how to make a comfy workspace. I would probably opt out of putting a couch in the room – strictly out of fear that I would just end up lying on it the whole time – but I would definitely love to have the lights up, and I love all of the bright colors. It totally brightens the mood and gets you energized…perfect for getting to work. You can see more of this workspace over at Glitter Guide.

What really caught my attention about this room by Heart Handmade UK was the use of storage, especially this fabric cabinet. All of my fabric ends up in a bin and then is forgotten. If I kept it visible like that, it might actually get put to use – what a thought! I also love the vintage odds and ends she has decorating her space. My Healthy Life: A Journey

my healthy life

I have been wanting to get back into working out daily for a long time. And I have come up with every excuse I can squeeze out of my lips and finger tips for why I’m not doing it. I’m tired. I have no energy. I chase a toddler around every hour I’m awake – isn’t that enough? Yesterday, I decided it was time to stop excusing why I had abandoned something that I secretly loved and that pushed me to take care of myself.

I wanted to involve Cecilia in my workouts and I knew that the baby workouts I did so long ago will probably not cut it for a baby on the move – so I searched for some new exercises I could do with my girl.

I found this little diddy from Rena Roark on Bulu Box that has fun exercises to do with your little one all the way up to your adolescent. Crazy to think that Cecilia will eventually be an adolescent. Blasphemy! I also found a neat 28 day workout plan to do with your kid from Inspired by Familia that I’m going to give a whirl.

Now, moving on to the taste buds…I have….THIS!

Oven Fried Pickles from Kim’s Healthy Eats paired with Clean Eating Ranch Dressing from The Gracious Pantry makes me a happy girl. I’m a sucker for fried pickles, and I was over the moon to learn there is a healthier recipe and I cannot wait to make them as an appetizer, or as dinner on a solo night.
