Gettin Fit: Old Clothes Challenge

On any given day, my daughter interrupts me nine out of the ten times I’m on the computer. Usually it’s so she can look at the screen or play with all of the buttons on the computer. Sometimes it’s because she want’s her momma, and that’s a good sign for me to put everything aside and just hang with my daughter. Lately, I’ve been waking up with my boyfriend so I can get a good couple hours of work in before she wakes.

Well, today she woke up before her normal time, and the interruption came in handy. I was well on my way to writing a really boring post and she must have somehow felt that was happening because she sprung out of her sleep and climbed on my lap (I should also note that she has become more accustomed to sleeping on the couch than in her crib right now. I know. We’re working on it).

Now that I have had some time away from the computer, I’m back and ready to write a super non-boring post (I hope!). I do have some exciting news to share: I’m officially an ambassador for the MyYogaPro Kickstarter campaign on DoYouYoga! This means I get all the inside scoop before the Kickstarter campaign actually starts. I know, I’m pretty special.

It also means that my photo is placed on the Ambassador page, and it links directly to my blog. So, it’s a double-promotion, aka double win! So, let me tell you a little bit more about MyYogaPro. It was created my Erin Motz, my most favorite online yoga teacher thus far, and Andy, who founded DoYouYoga. If the campaign goes as planned, the site will offer 16 full-on yoga courses and 200 exclusive HD videos of yoga classes, poses and sequences, all hosted by my girl Erin.

It will also allow you to connect with other yogis around the world and you can enter challenges with your bust bud. Even if you’re doing it solo, you can earn badges after completing courses and you will have a personal progress bar. So if you want to become a rad ambassador like me, click on the badge or any of the links above.

I have been really falling behind on my yoga practice, so that is just the push I need to get back on track! I also decided I would make my own pumpkin spice creamer today. This is really only because we don’t have any creamer left and a girl can use almond milk as creamer for only so long! I happened to find a recipe for both pumpkin pie spice and pumpkin creamer on my go-to clean eating site, The Gracious Pantry.

photo

The creamer is chillin’ in the fridge (literally) overnight, so I will write a full review when I’m done to let you know how it turns out! The last couple times I have tried the recipe have been failures, so I’m hoping for a win on this one.

I also tried on a few pairs of my old pants (mostly because my one pair I wear now was in the laundry) and to my surprise – they fit! I will also write a post on that for next week, and will show off the new/old duds! It’s definitely motivation to keep doing what I’m doing…and it’s super thrifty because I don’t need to buy new clothes! I already have them, hidden in that magical forest I like to call under-bed storage.

Please remember that I am not compensated for writing about DoYouYoga or The Gracious Pantry. I am writing about them simply because I love their websites and I believe in what they’re doing. If you would like to keep up with my gettin fit journey or if you want to join it, connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest. I would love to have you!

Gettin fit: Old Clothes Challenge

Goals: Reach 130 by Nov 12 | Workout 30 min per day | Eat clean, whole foods

Yesterday marked the end of the Real Food Challenge. I didn’t stick to it every day, due to a serious lack of the necessary ingredients. So, I’m going to go through all of the recipes today and make a grocery list. Since we don’t go grocery shopping often, I think it would be best to make a big haul once a month and just get little stuff when we need it. I’m going to use this list and the list from The Gracious Pantry and combine the two. I don’t want to bore everyone with my grocery list, but if you would like to see it for some inspiration, please let me know and I will be happy to share!

I’m sticking to my 30 minute exercise plan. I get plenty of it chasing around the baby, but she’s getting to the point where she would rather just crawl around and do her own thing then hang with her boring ol mom while I work out. While I was on the lookout for an easy 30 minute exercise I can do, I found this:

Beginner Bodyweight Monthly Workout Plan from GB Personal Training – RAD! Founder Greg Brookes says that this workout is for total beginners, or people who have been out of it for a while (for some reason, I feel like I fit both). And he says that no workout should take longer than 30 minutes! I can get down with that!

Also, in yoga and fitness news….DoYouYoga.com is launching a new yoga project with Erin Motz! They’re launching a Kickstarter campaign in six days for a new MyYogaPro – a new yoga site where “beginner and advanced yogis grow their practice  together with real yoga teachers. Get countless HD streaming videos, workshops, how-tos, articles and expert insights. Ask questions and let Erin Motz and a team of certified yoga instructors help you get the best out of your yoga practice.”

(I see an Erin Motz fan club in my future)

I will share more details about this site as I learn them. It looks like it’s going to be a pretty amazing site. So, I’m going to try that Monthly Workout Plan today and I’m compiling a grocery list for some good clean eating ingredients! Again, let me know if you want to see my list for inspiration. I’m also going to work on designing a printable grocery list with all the major food groups listed. What are your fitness and health goals? IMG_5294To know me is to know that I will plan my birthday months in advance. Normally, it’s because I plan on having a month (or week if I’m poor) long celebration. This time around, I’m planning it because that’s when I plan to meet my goal. Since my birthday is in 3 months, I’m giving myself that amount of time to kick it into high gear. I know, I know…I’ve set goals before and never stuck to them. But hey, maybe it will work this time.

The baby and I are starting to get our schedule down and now that she’s into her walker and playing with all of her toys in her playpen, I have a little more time to work out and practice yoga. I do try to include her in my workouts, but now that she’s mobile, she would rather not. I’ve also started baking all my breads on Saturdays and Sundays when I have more help. Then, I use them all week. And it works!

I have found all of my workouts so far on Fitness Blender. They have quick workouts and I always feel good afterwards. Sore, but good. And of course, for my yoga needs, I stick with Erin Motz and Do You Yoga. I just love her.

Tonight, I’m going to cook my black beans and oatmeal so they are ready for tomorrow. I got my black beans in a bag, so this will be my first time preparing them. We’ll see how it goes! I’m finding it easier to stick to my clean eating lifestyle, and I’m feeling a lot better.

Posting my yoga and workout sessions daily has really helped me stay on track. I just don’t want this blog to be over-saturated with workout stuff. So, I decided to start a healthy blog called too fit to be square. I upload pictures of my workout sessions, good food I made, recipes, workout tutorials and videos I found and just general healthy inspiration.

I will still be updating this blog about my healthy journey every week, but that blog will be updated daily.

Feel free to follow my blog if you are needing a little inspiration, and you can join my old clothes challenge by using the hashtag #oldclotheschallenge on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You can find more healthy living inspiration on my Pinterest.

So fresh and so clean

Monthly goals: No fast food/ Yoga + Workout daily

So, I’ve decided that instead of calculating and sharing my weight every week, I’m going to do it monthly. In between my monthly check-in’s, I’ll share some food and exercises that I find inspiring and hopefully even profile some inspiring people who have made huge lifestyle changes for the better.

So, to start things off, let’s talk about my most favorite thing ever. FOOD! Yesterday, I wrote about some awesome grapefruit treats that I found. And one of them was grapefruit brulee, which might actually become my new favorite treat. Super easy to do, minimal ingredients, and so very good.

Feeling inspired (and too tired to make anything strenuous) this morning, I decided to try out this grapefruit brulee, and it was seriously everything I could ask for. The grapefruit was soft and warm and the cinnamon melted so perfectly into every little bite that the grapefruit tasted more sweet and any remnants of bitterness was gone.

IMG_4954And, now for the exercise part, of course. I am still continuing with my 365 days of yoga challenge and I have seen a huge change in how much easier it is for me to do all of the poses now. I also don’t feel as stressed out as I used to and I don’t have as much pain anymore. Of course, I take a couple days off here and there, and I can feel it every time I do. Last week, I injured my knee at my brother’s wedding (long story) so now I’m rockin a knee brace, but I still stick to my practice as much as I can.

IMG_4705 IMG_4729 IMG_4761 IMG_4778 IMG_4820 IMG_4827 IMG_4831 IMG_4948 IMG_4964

I have to say, my favorite yoga inspiration, by far, has been Erin Motz with Do You Yoga. She’s just so easygoing, and her practices aren’t long at all, which fits in perfectly with my lifestyle. She has really inspired me to look into becoming a trainer, after I get a few more hours under my belt, of course.

And for some more workout inspiration, I found this awesome exercise online.

This kettlebell workout from Women’s Health doesn’t look like it would be that hard, but man did it make me sweat! This is perfect to do while your little one is crawling around, or something quick while he/she is napping. I would not suggest using your baby as a kettlebell though. That could end badly.

Please share any “clean living” and/or exercise inspirations! Post them in the comments or share them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with the hashtag #sofreshsoclean. You can also check out my Pinterest for more clean and fit inspiration.

Gettin fit: journey to the skirt/ 365 days of yoga

journey to the skirt

Current weight: 152

Goals: No soda or fast food/ Yoga twice a day. No execeptions

Let me tell you how exciting it is to make a Trader Joe’s trip! It’s like Christmas every time I walk in there and smell that wonderful aroma in the air. I looked at the Clean Eating grocery list from Gracious Pantry and it helped me stay way more on track than just going at it all willy-nilly.

Now that I’ve gotten into this diet for a while now, I think I know what food is good for you and what is maybe not so good. It’s not hard to stay motivated when I have all the food I feel I need in the house. The hardest part is when you’re not stocked and there are so many easy temptations around.

I just need to stay focused on my goals and understand that while there will be bad days, the good days need to be really good. Check out my new favorite breakfast: sprouted wheat bagel with hummus and avocado and a bowl of fruit. I will never stop eating wheat. Sorry. I love it.

IMG_4548

So I pretty much stayed on track with my 365 days of yoga. I only missed one day this week because I didn’t have a mat at my moms and my poor, bad knee would have slipped if I did it on just the hardwood floor.

IMG_4432 IMG_4468 IMG_4494 IMG_4539 IMG_4547 IMG_4575

As you may know, it is incredibly hard to photograph yourself while in a yoga flow, so I either do it when I can pause for a moment, or just take a picture of myself being weird. I’ve been following the 30 Day Challenge on Do You Yoga. I’m going to continue following Erin Motz, who runs the challenge, after it’s over. She’s super rad and I didn’t realize how lame some of the yoga teachers are until I had her. Check her out. She’s on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube too.

You can keep up with my yoga pictures on Instagram and check out my yoga and clean eating inspiration on Pinterest. If you want to join the challenge, post photos of yourself practicing yoga daily and use the hashtag #365daysofyoga on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. If you miss a day, it’s cool. Just pick it up the next day!

Weekly goal: No sodas!

So, I was all ready to workout like a champ last week, but alas….no. But, I have a new motivation. My brother’s wedding is nine weeks from this Friday, and I have made it my goal to wear this at some point during that weekend. We will be in Tahoe for the wedding and I just think it would be so fun to wear that little deal around town.

I also have some more motivation to help me reach my goal. I have now applied to blog for both Skinny Mom and BodyRock TV, sites that I have used before to kick my little (ok, big) hind-end into gear. I will be doing all of this without following any special diet, just monitoring what I eat and how much activity I’m getting every day.

I am making it a goal to eliminate all sodas from my life, but gosh dang it is hard! Like I said before, it’s not that I’m really addicted to sodas, it’s the availability of them at this house. By 12 pm, I am really dragging and need a little pick-me-up. I think the biggest issue for me is having healthy food that I like here. And making food every night. As long as I’m making the food, I’m good. I just need to stick to that.

As far as working out, it’s really hard for me to step away from the computer in the morning to work out. I do include my daughter in my afternoon workouts and I’m going to write a post for next week about how to workout with your little babe. All the posts I see are for babes that are sitting up by themselves, which makes it a little easier, but what about the babes who can’t do that yet?

So, I’m working on banishing all soft drinks and taking a half hour away from the computer each day to work out. We shall see how that goes!

Gettin fit: journey to the skirt

Current weight: 152.5

Two week goal: Yoga every day for 20 minutes, no soft drinks

IMG_3587This has no longer become an issue of weight. I’m seriously just tracking it so I can track my progress. This has now become an issue of being able to fit into this skirt. I got it a long time ago, and I don’t have the heart to do anything to it because it’s old school and if I mess it up, I fear that will never find a skirt like this again. I know it’s just a material item, but its one of the most lovely material items I have ever seen.

So, for now, it hangs on my door as motivation to get off my bum and work out and eat right every day. Shockingly enough, it has been harder to quit soft drinks than it was to quit beer when I got pregnant. Maybe because I knew I just couldn’t have it, that it was easy to quit the booze the day I found out I was pregnant. I never thought I had an addiction to sodas, but now I’m second-guessing myself.

Since I lived on my own, I never had sodas in my house. Why drink soda when there was beer handy? I would drink them when I was out for lunch or something, but that was it. Then I got pregnant and craved Arnold Palmers like nobody’s business. When those weren’t handy, I craved Sprite. Sprite was my gateway soda. Now that my boyfriend and his dad always have soda on standby, it’s so hard to turn them down when I’m tired as all heck and just need a pick-me-up to help me get through the day.

Then there’s the exercise thing. Sure, I could start working out when my daughter naps, but I use that time to clean and work on my blog and other things that are way more exciting than working out. I was working out with her, but then stopped when she got bored of it. I need to start doing that again. For now, I just wait until my boyfriend gets home to hang out with her so I can work out with any interruptions (most of the time). It’s my little half hour of sanity. But then I quit doing that too.

To help kick me into gear with working out, I have started 108 Days of Yoga. It started yesterday, so go figure, I already missed the first day. But I’m going to start that tonight. I’m also doing the Yoga Journal Fitness Challenge but I’ve had a hard time staying on track with that too. Like, it’s on Day 11 and I’ve only completed one day of it, kind of hard time. If I can just commit to twenty minutes of exercise and no soft drinks for two weeks, I will start to increase my amount of exercise time and cut off another unhealthy food. I know myself and I need to go at this at a slow pace. If I get too stressed out about it, I will just quit everything altogether like I’ve done a million times before.

I’m going to post my progress every week on Tuesdays so feel free to follow me on my journey to fitting into that skirt!
