I have been wanting to get back into working out daily for a long time. And I have come up with every excuse I can squeeze out of my lips and finger tips for why I’m not doing it. I’m tired. I have no energy. I chase a toddler around every hour I’m awake – isn’t that enough? Yesterday, I decided it was time to stop excusing why I had abandoned something that I secretly loved and that pushed me to take care of myself.

I wanted to involve Cecilia in my workouts and I knew that the baby workouts I did so long ago will probably not cut it for a baby on the move – so I searched for some new exercises I could do with my girl.

I found this little diddy from Rena Roark on Bulu Box that has fun exercises to do with your little one all the way up to your adolescent. Crazy to think that Cecilia will eventually be an adolescent. Blasphemy! I also found a neat 28 day workout plan to do with your kid from Inspired by Familia that I’m going to give a whirl.

Now, moving on to the taste buds…I have….THIS!

Oven Fried Pickles from Kim’s Healthy Eats paired with Clean Eating Ranch Dressing from The Gracious Pantry makes me a happy girl. I’m a sucker for fried pickles, and I was over the moon to learn there is a healthier recipe and I cannot wait to make them as an appetizer, or as dinner on a solo night.

Monday Inspiration

Whenever I’m feeling down and out, I always find a little light when I log in to my social media sites and see all the wonderful things people are doing. Whether it’s making a new recipe from scratch, finishing a long-time project or visiting an amazing city, there is always something to lift my spirits.

And then it hit me. While I wholeheartedly encourage seeking inspiration from others when you are feeling overwhelmed or just plain out of it, why aren’t I looking inside myself for inspiration? Why aren’t I amazing myself? I could do all of these things (aside from traveling, that will just have to wait), I just need to make time for them. So what’s my excuse?

I will have to say, I did make a few meals from scratch last week, and we were able to eat leftovers throughout the week. But then by Friday, it all came to a halt. I got exhausted and just couldn’t push myself to create. So I’ve gone over what was bothering me, what made me feel so uninspired, and I made a list of how to fix it. I absolutely love making lists. I don’t always follow them, but I do love to make them.

Then I made myself a daily schedule and now I’m working on a weekly meal plan. It’s all totally boring stuff and I feel sort of silly writing about it on my blog. But it’s a part of life and I can pretty much guarantee I’m not the only one who has felt like this. So while I don’t want to write out every detail, here is what I have planned out:

  • Write daily. Whether it’s on my blog or in my little journal, just write.
  • Cook something new and fun when I can. Find new recipes and experiment a little. Mix it up a bit. Share what I cook online.
  • Work out 30 minutes a day and practice yoga at least once a day. It’s insane how much energy I get from working out, and I always feel invigorated after doing yoga. These simple things change everything, but I never make time for them.
  • Set aside 4-6 hrs a day for school work, depending on what I have. Turn everything off so I just have that to concentrate on. Of course I will take time for baby breaks, but that’s it.
  • Schedule more Pampered Chef parties and start selling more of my stuff online
  • An hour a day on creative art stuff. It’s something that I love doing, but never give myself the time to do it.

I got inspired to work on this list after I read a little something from Danny J – who runs The Sweaty Betties – about not making any more excuses and making goals and sticking to them. So I hope I can inspire someone as well. I’m going to turn this into a little self-spring cleaning. Spring cleaning of the soul, maybe?

Creative Business Journey: Project 2014

I was moved by a quote that Susan Petersen from Freshly Picked shared yesterday.

“Are you paralyzed with fear? That’s a good sign. Fear is good. Like self-doubt, fear is an indicator. Fear tells us what we have to do. Remember one rule of thumb: the more scared we are of a work or calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it.”

It’s from Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art and it expressed how I have been feeling lately to a tee. Every time I e-mail someone to see if they want to be featured in my series, there is a fear. My hands get sweaty and my heart races. What if that person hates the idea, or worse, hates my blog? What if they don’t want to bother with something so trivial and small? Luckily, most of the people I have asked have been nothing but wonderful, and if they do pass, they do so with care.

But none of that would have happened if fear consumed me. There wouldn’t be a Yo Momma Monday or a Meet the Maker series if I let the fear dictate me. And I would have never gotten to know the incredible people I have, or would have been able to share their stories.

I have been making a lot of changes – some natural, and some terrifying. In January, when I was thinking about what needed to happen, I knew that I needed to be fearless. To not become consumed by my fear or to doubt myself, but to embrace my fear as a call to action. Project 2014 was the perfect challenge for me, and I love having someone to check in on me to make sure I’m taking care of my business.

Now that my blog redesign is pretty much good to go, I’m focusing my energy on how I want to see my blog in the future. I’m going to explore the world of sponsorships and partnerships and get more people involved in my blog – expand the community more. Because I know, deep down in my heart, that this blog can be everything I want it to be. It just takes some work, and more than that – it takes confidence.

As for Sweet Mariposa, I need to get to work on creating new stuff! I have made a plan in the past to do all of my creating on Saturdays, but as with anything else, you can’t plan when you create. And you certainly can’t plan it on a day that is usually reserved for family time. I need to go through all of my stuff, and see what I want to build on.

There’s also an insane amount of fear that comes with showing your art to the world. Because once someone makes one negative comment about it, you immediately want to take it down and protect it from the cruel world. But, depending on the comment, there is a lot you could learn from it.

Is there a flaw in your work, or is it just that person’s opinion? Do you hear the same comment from different people? Maybe the message you’re trying to convey isn’t clear, and you need to change some things up. Or maybe…you just need to accept the fact that not everybody will love your work like you do, and move on.
